Hey Friends!
We are so, so excited to welcome you all back to our annual wine night fundraiser! This year marks a major milestone for us: it is my 5th year and my dad’s 4th year riding in Pelotonia.
We ride for a lot of reasons, but most importantly, we ride in honor of the absolute best person we know—my mom, Donna McFarland.
A little over seven years ago, our lives changed overnight. After months of horrific and misdiagnosed back pain, my mom got a late-night call from her doctor. They had found something on her MRI. She came to my house late that night just to hug me before heading straight to The James Cancer Hospital. What followed was an emergency diagnosis and an unimaginably long, grueling surgery to remove massive tumors wrapped around her spine.
She fought like hell to walk again, and then she fought her tail off through months of chemotherapy. Today, we are incredibly blessed to say she is years into a clean bill of health! She is the strongest person I have ever known. I thank God every single day for the brilliant doctors, nurses, and physical therapists at The James—and for the fact that I still get to have my mom, my best friend, right by my side.
Because of places like The James, families like ours get more time together. That is exactly what Pelotonia is about. To date, this incredible community has raised over $339 Million for life-saving cancer research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center. Every single dollar raised by riders goes directly toward finding a cure so that more families can share the kind of miracle we experienced.
We could not do this without you. Year after year, you show up for us, pour a glass, and open your hearts to this cause. Your generosity, laughter, and unwavering support are what get us across the finish line every August.
Thank you for continuing to stand by our family, for honoring my mom, and for helping us fund the research that saves lives. Let’s drink some great wine and raise some serious money for a cure!
